John McCain has just announced his choice for his Vice Presidential candidate. It's Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska. Prior to today, Sarah was best known as "the potential candidate for VP that McCain might go with to look hip and trendy," as if presidential politics was a game of poker in which a white female trumps a black guy, or something.
(Forgive my cynicism, but I don't think anyone observing American politics from the outside for as long as I have can avoid being cynical.)
There doesn't seem to be an official time of birth for Ms. Palin around anywhere yet. What we do know is that she was born February 11th, 1964 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Although it's always dangerous to speculate about such things without an accurate time of birth, here's Sarah's major transits for Election Day.
Transiting Mars square natal Mars
Transiting Jupiter square natal Jupiter
Transiting Jupiter sextile natal Neptune
Transiting Neptune square natal Sun-Mars-Saturn
(A natal Sun-Mars-Saturn conjunction? Sounds Republican to me!)
Admittedly, it doesn't look terribly happy for Ms. Palin.
The truth is though, I've been more or less deliberately avoiding doing too many calculations in an attempt to figure out who is going to win the upcoming election. And that's certainly not due to a lack of interest. That's not even due to the relative lack or reliable birth data.
I think astrology can tell us the outcome of the election, but not in the usual sense.
You see, transit-wise, the big news this upcoming First Tuesday In November this year is the exact Saturn/Uranus opposition in Virgo/Pisces, with Uranus retrograde. Transiting Venus is throwing in a square from Sagittarius to liven things up a little.
Uranus rules, among other things, electronics and relatively-novel technical processes. And this election, up to one-third of all ballots in the election are not going to be counted by squabbling bands of Democratic and Republican scrutineers, as the process has gone in past.
This election, up to one-third of all the ballots will be "counted" by Diebold voting machines. You know, the efficient, Uranus-ruled devices that 34 States have already been officially notified drop votes unpredictably and that can be relatively easily hacked.
The winner of the next US Presidential Election? I'm predicting a landslide... for Uranus.

...and a midget Pacific Islander trumps a White female, you really should consult the "Politics Tree"
But seriously, if history repeats itself .. America would be more comfy with a black dude in office before a woman.
I feel sorry for us too, I worry less about machines than I do people who live in places that don't get the "New York Times". Who would vote on fears of international terrorism above all.
They found the dude who mailed Anthrax after 9/11 and it was a white dude who was trying to carry out some sort of Catholic crusade, he was a contractor for the government for crying out loud! But the story died down after 2 days...this was an act of terrorism!! If the man who had mailed the anthrax been of middle eastern descent...the story never would have ended, they would have dug his grandmother and interviewed her skeleton!
I am more scared of people in my country than I am of terrorists off in another country, WHERE I CURRENTLY AM AT.
I fear for our troops that are over there ... and hope for their return very, very soon.
I have a difficult time putting all my hopes on one person anyway, we need to fix the media and corporations that make America a state of emergency all the time.
So then Matthew, we have to work out whether McCain and his buddies in the backroom will be more adept at cheating the machines than Obama and his guys and gals.
Hmmmm - Obama's irritating on-line kids seem to have an overload of smarts in this area. They've regularly hacked into and closed down anti-Obama blogs - a voting machine would probably be easy meat for them to fix.
Then again, we don't know who Karl Rove has stashed away in McCain's backroom.
So we're no nearer a conclusion;-)
"[I am] committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."
-Walden O'Dell, CEO of Diebold Inc, in a republican fundraising letter, August 14, 2003.
Obama has the kids and the idealists on his side. McCain has The Money on his side.
Which side won last time...?
I remember the Anthrax deal. So what happened? D:
Meh, anyone watch the democratic speeches? XD
She may be politically savvy but what happens if McCain does not live out a 4-year term? Yikes. We've no idea how she do on the international scene or as the US commander in chief. How would she stand up to the old boys network is a big question? Strange times at Ridgemount High...
Note:Election day this year is almost entirely Moon 'void of course' in the U.S.

Your concluding line is PERFECT. Love it. Congrats on a great piece.
