Wikileaks, Wikifear, And The Astrology Of Julian Assange

Join me Thursday on "Conquer The Universe With Astrology" and my special guest, astrologer Lynn Hayes. We'll be talking about what's coming up for 2011, and I'll be getting her opinion on what may be the biggest developing story of 2011... one which has already started.

You've already heard about Wikileaks and the huge embarrassment caused to the world's (well, mostly America's) intelligence community. Huge pressure has been placed on Wikileaks to put it out of business... dubious personal charges against founder Julian Assange, calls for his immediate termination (and no, I don't mean "firing"), and various attempts to cut off his funding.

But then.... PayPal went down. Mastercard went down. Visa went down. Angry mobs with torches -- the cyberspace version -- are hard at work. And Uranus The Rebel Planet hasn't even reaches feisty Aries yet. That happens in March 2011.

Another thing that is scheduled to happen in early 2011? Wikileaks releases its next big info-dump. This time: thousands of documents relating to American Banking.

If people could get this upset over diplomatic gossip... how are they going to react when they find the Enron-sized shenanigans that go into their credit card rates, and their mortgages, and financing the people who voted for more tax breaks for the ultra-rich?

Here's the birth chart for Julian Assange... birth time uncovered by Mountain Astrologer Magazine:

We live in interesting times, people. And they're about to get a lot more interesting. Join Lynn and I Thursday for more, and write me for your freebie!

Uranus In Aries (Epilogue): Something Stirs In The Cornfield

(Due to a freak blogging injury, Matthew Currie is not available today. In his place we present a Special Guest Blogger... the planet Uranus itself. Your slightly less massive and less methane-filled blog will return next time.)

Hi everyone. Hope you are all enjoying your smoothly-running, predictable lives, and are having a good time here on my favorite astrology dating site. I'd like to take a few minutes of your time to correct some misunderstandings about the nature of my tour through Aries.

It's my job to bring unusual and interesting circumstances into your life. Of course that's true of all the planets, but my deliveries have more of an unexpected, sudden feeling to them... even when they are as a result of things that have been boiling away quietly just beneath the surface, sometimes for ages.

You see, aliens will be landing. But, don't worry... everything will be just fine, and life will go on as usual. Stay calm. Some of them have landed already. They've landed in your work place and your relationships and in your head.

Gary Coleman Is Dead, Gary Oldman Is Alive, And Uranus Is In Aries

Gary Coleman (Born, February 8, 1968, time unknown, Zion, IL) died of a cerebral hemorrhage Friday. Most astrologers (and rightly so) shy away from playing "prophet of doom," but in hindsight, Coleman's transits are classic for this sort of thing: Uranus, newly entered Aries, is conjunct Coleman's Mars/Saturn midpoint (associated with blood pressure issues). Saturn is conjunct his natal Uranus, and Neptune is conjunct his natal Mercury... all of which are bad signs for neurological issues, and circulation in the brain.

Given his medical history, this may not be the biggest shock to those who knew Mr. Coleman. But Uranus always brings surprises. Consider the startling case of actor Gary Oldman, who (despite a current wave of Internet reports) is clinging tenaciously to life today. Thanks to the modern miracle of Internet communications (and the ancient miracle of miscommunication), there weekend was flooded with rumors of Mr. Oldman's death.

You see, Mr Oldman (March 21, 1958, 10:56 AM, London UK) has his Sun at 0 Degrees Aries.... right where Uranus is now.  His Sun is in his Tenth House, which rules public reputation. And his natal Saturn (in his Sixth House... daily work routines and such) is being squared by transiting Saturn. Translation: the rumors of Gary Oldman's death are highly exaggerated.

What does all this mean to you and me? Simple. Uranus is going to liven things up, unpredictably, for a lot of people in a lot of ways. And isn't that exactly what a good romance... or an exciting new career, or any of the other things people consult astrologers about... is supposed to do?

Uranus In Aries: The First Day Of School For Humanity

Here I was... all ready to tell you about my current special deal on readings... discounts, free stuff, and more... when the larger implications of all my recent astrological research fell into place with a dramatic thump.

Every once in a while, you've got to go out on a limb... astrologers included. I normally don't predict anything specific for anyone in the course of a consultation unless I have plenty of reason to back up what I'm saying. As a result, thankfully, I'm usually right, even about the crazier, less-easily-predicted things that come up.

Having said that... here's me, out on a very big limb.

I think I've figured out what the Big Message will be with Uranus in Aries, combined with Pluto in Capricorn. It seems to me that when you put the two together... the undeniable transformation of how we view our material world and surroundings that will come with Pluto in Capricorn,. combined with the "what about me?" rebelliousness of Uranus in Aries.. we're going to be getting one undeniably huge result. And I think I've figured out exactly what form that will take.

It may be hidden away in the red, surprisingly damp soil of an otherwise dead-looking desert millions of miles away from us. It may make its voice known in a faint radio signal. Or it may be something even more dramatic... but one way or another, before Uranus leaves Aries in March, 2019, I believe we're going to discover something that may have been shouting at us from the sky since long before we had the ears to hear it.

We're all going to be a little less alone, whether that fits comfortably with everyone's world view or not. And how tragically limiting... holding to a single world, or a single world view, when there's just so much of everything out there.

It will be the beginning of humanity really grasping its place in the Universe. And, who knows? It could be the beginning of a fascinating conversation.

"It's the first day of school, fellas..."

Uranus In Aries, Part Three: Where The Rebellion Happens

So here we are, with Uranus in Aries, and the world hasn't blown up yet. But the fuse is lit, and big explosive change is coming... even if it's a prolonged, quiet explosion. Here's how it's most likely to affect you, by Sign. If you know your Rising Sign, read it from that angle too. Stay calm, make sure your helmet is on, and get ready for (potentially) the best blow-up ever!

Uranus In Aries, Part Two: Fear Of A San Francisco Planet

Why are so many people afraid of San Francisco?

When I told my friends I was going to San Francisco about a year ago, the responses were mixed. Sure, they were generally happy for me, and of course they all had visions of me seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and the Transamerica Building and Chinatown and the trolley cars and the murals in the Mission district and all the touristy stuff that compels people to come here. But often, there was a faint but distinct undertone to it all:

San Francisco may infect and change you.

The funny thing is that, despite what Rush Limbaugh or your minister or your Dad told you about it, San Francisco is not "overrun" with gay people or hippies or socialists or any of the other things people often loudly fear... usually for entirely personal reasons. Yes, it's absolutely true: I have seen more naked men (except for a bondage harness) flogging each other in the streets than I have anywhere else. Yes, I have seen more angry protesters demanding that everything, everywhere should be nationalized immediately than I have anywhere else. I've also seen more drunken hooligans dressed like Santa Claus, more completely whacked out junkies, more damaged hippies, more people wearing outfits that match what their Chihuahua is wearing, and more cupcakes here than anywhere else I've lived.

Yes. It's true. There are a lot of cupcakes in San Francisco. A lot. They don't tell you that in the tourist guides, but they should.

What I learned about San Francisco is this:...

Uranus In Aries, Part One: The Real Revolution Will Not Be Marketed

Uranus, astrology's planet of Freaky Rebellion, is in the final degree of Pisces (the sign it has been in since 2003) and is about to enter Aries. And there is a revolution in the works... but it probably isn't the revolution you were expecting. Personally, I am mostly pleased about this: Pisces has never struck me as a decent place for Uranus to do its job, and if you look at the department of your life that has been freaky since 2003 or so, you're likely to agree. Wherever Uranus lands in your birth chart, it creates unusual circumstances which usually require some choice on your part. It shakes things loose and creates both opportunity and anarchy. Facing weird circumstances can be uncomfortable, but having a lot of choices as to how you run your life is a good thing... right?

Maybe not.

Happy Uranus Station/Canada Day!

Uranus comes to a grinding halt in the sky today, so have a good look at your birth chart. If you have something in the late degrees of the Mutable Signs... big things are a' happenin'.

It's also Canada Day, when we of the Frozen North celebrate our independence from the British Empire. That in and of itself wasn't terribly Uranian -- there was no great rebellion, no war for independence, no thrilling tales of battlefield daring. It's a little like taking the day off to celebrate getting your driver's licence renewed.

...Or so you'd think. We're a peaceful, kind and co-operative lot, generally speaking. But once a year on this day we gather and... secretly, while no outsiders are watching... we celebrate the story our neighbors to the south tend to gloss over when they're celebrating their own history. An educational video is provided below.

Oh, damn. I let the Big Canadian secret out. Now they're gonna revoke my citizenship. Wait... who am I kidding? This is Canada we're talking about. By the time we're done debating who should be on the Board Of Inquiry into my bad behaviour, I'm going to be long dead.

Anyway, Happy Uranus Station/Canada Day! Celebrate with your own act of revolution... before the revolution comes and finds you.

Uranus And Pluto Conjunct, In Virgo, In The Third House: An Interview

" 'No reason to get excited,' the thief he kindly spoke. 'There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke. But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate. So let us not talk falsely now -- the hour is getting late.' "
-All Along The Watchtower

(SCENE: The Interview Room. MATTHEW THE ASTROLOGER sits behind the desk. The overhead fluorescent lights blink and then go out, replaced by the dim and reddish emergency lights. The door to the room opens and URANUS IN VIRGO IN THE THIRD HOUSE enters. He makes tiny clanks and hydraulic hisses as he walks, being half human and half cybernetic being. His left eye has been replaced with some sort of laser imaging device, and his right forearm appears to have been replaced by a complex mechanical probe. He comes to a halt and stands to MTA's left.

Next, an enormous black Rottweiler the size of a small pony enters. It is PLUTO IN VIRGO IN THE THIRD HOUSE. He trots into the room and jumps into the seat in front of MTA's desk.)

P3H: Hello. I'm so glad you could make it.

MTA: What do you mean? I'm the one who invited you.

P3H: I mean "glad you're still alive," made it.

MTA: You didn't come on schedule.

U3H: Unpredictability, advantage gained. Interview is now in our control.

MTA: Oh. Um, nice touch.

P3H: The last thing we wanted from you was a rigged, pre-arranged interview where you made us look silly. (Lifts his leg and begins licking himself)

MTA: Right. So I guess you two have an effect on my style of communication, being in the Third House --

U3H: Insufficient! Parameter too small! Recalibrate!

P3H: What my friend is trying to say is that saying that the Third House is "communication" is far too limiting. The third house is how your mind works. How, in your case, you remember tiny trivial details for decades, even when your Mercury drops the ball and loses your keys. And how you can assemble those details to form a bigger picture than what was at first expected.

U3H: Additional data: high affinity for metaphoric imagery.

MTA: You mean how I like to find oddball metaphors for things, like making my Uranus in Virgo a Borg... a weird species of alien who will go to unusual lengths to achieve what they see as perfection?

U3H: Affirmative.

MTA: (To P3H) And you are...?

P3H: The neighbor's dog that scared the hell out of you when you were six.

MTA: Ah. You know, you guys aspect most of the stuff in my chart. Pretty much everything except Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter. That makes you pretty significant.

P3H: Venus and Jupiter? A pushover and a clown. Not of any real significance. And your Mercury is scattered to near-uselessness.

U3H: They are irrelevant. We do not need them.

MTA: What are you talking about?

P3H: We're here to correct you. In past, you have said that strong placements in other signs can overwhelm a relatively weak or isolated Sun Sign. Like the Gemini you know with the stellium in Taurus. Or, in your case, the Moon in Cancer on the Ascendant. particularly in times of stress. Like you've experienced recently.

MTA: And you don't agree with that?

(U3H extends his metal probe-arm out to MTA. A pair of mechanical fangs shoot out, stabbing MTA's left shoulder, and withdraw.)

MTA: Ow! What was that for?

P3H: We agree with your theory, in principle.

MTA: (Absently scratching the back of his left hand) Then what are you trying to prove?

P3H: That the idea is right, but you got the placement wrong. In your case, it isn't sweet little Moon In Cancer. It's us. And we are taking over.

U3H: We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.

(MTA scratches harder at the back of his left hand, then holds it up to examine the source of the itch. A rash has broken out, but no ordinary rash: it is composed of electronic components and wiring wrapped in thick black dog hairs. And it is slowly spreading up MTA's arm.)

MTA: This... this is... you can't...

(U3H begins to produce a quavering feedback sound, and P3H barks, and then begins to howl. Both the feedback and the howling soon mutate into maniacal laughter. The red emergency lights dim, then flicker out completely. The insane laughter continues.)

MTA: Oh. Shit.

Weird Science: Saturn-Uranus And Morgellon's Disease

One feature of the ongoing Saturn-Uranus opposition is that one can expect weird things to come hatching out... and in one case that's in the news: literally hatching out. Of your skin.

The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) are finally investigating a weird phenomenon I've kept an eye on for some time: Morgellon's Disease, a medical condition which a lot of doctors don't even believe exists.

Morgellon's comes with an interesting collection of symptoms. Often sufferers report confusion, joint pain, and memory problems. But that's not the weird part. The primary symptom is a sense of crawling under the skin, like bugs are burrowing through you. And then the rash breaks out.

And then tiny, mysterious coloured fibres hatch out of you. Sometimes white, black, red or blue.

Another mysterious thing about Morgellon's: most doctors treat it as "hysterical parasitosis:" in other words... "you're crazy because you think you've got bugs inside you." This, despite the very weird but very obvious fibers involved.

There is another Saturn-Uranus possibility that has been mentioned: that Morgellon's is caused by Agrobacterium, a common bacterium used in various genetic-engineering projects. One of the reasons Agrobacterium is used for this is that it was believed, at first, that it did not infect humans or animals.

Oops.

So it's possible... just possible... that we are now, for the first time, seeing one of the stranger unintended consequences of modern genetic engineering technology.

Mainstream science... though I have a great love and admiration for it... doesn't really want to admit that things it doesn't believe in are real. Like, you know... astrology, for example. Scientists are human, and part of being human is the ability to deny the obvious. But science... True Science... is the practice of accepting observations as they are, and attempting to make sense of them. The Saturn-Uranus opposition is giving us all the opportunity to be scientists with our own lives. It's just a matter of reading the data.

Saturn rules skin, among other things. This opposition may not manifest itself in your life by you getting some strange new skin disorder. But Saturn also rules your sense of order: how life is, or how it's supposed to be. And Uranus rules the strange and unexpected. Odds are good you are feeling the changes brought by the Saturn-Uranus opposition in some department of your life.

So: what's come hatching out of your life lately?

Trouble At Work: Dr. Phil Feels The Saturn Pinch

There's a bad vibe going around the set of The Dr. Phil Show these days. In the last three months, two members of the show's staff have died and two others have had medical emergencies... including the sudden and unexpected death of a young intern from a strep infection. All of this is happening during a "re-tooling" process to boost ratings, which have undergone a slow but steady decline from their peak a few years ago.

Not surprisingly, Phil McGraw's transits (September 1, 1950, 7:15 PM, Vinita, Oklahoma) reflect this. His Midheaven (public image and perception) is at 24 degrees Sagittarius, and is only now pulling out of a merciless four year off-and-on conjunction with Pluto. Transiting Uranus is currently conjuncting his Ascendant at 21 Pisces, and will be squaring the Midheaven off and on throughout the upcoming season. As for the most recent spate of unexpected deaths in the studio itself: these have all taken place while transiting Saturn has been conjuncting his natal Sun at 9 degrees Virgo. The Sun is the ruler of his Sixth House (work and daily details) and is also in the Sixth.

Furthermore, as the beginning of the new TV season approaches, Neptune is conjuncting the secondary progressed Midheaven. All of these bad transits appear to be piling up to make it a very difficult Fall season for Dr. Phil.

Two bits of good news for Dr. Phil: One, Pluto... which has caused so much trouble for him in past... is rolling into a sextile with natal Jupiter, the Midheaven ruler, and will over the course of the next few years trine his natal Sun and Moon. So, although things certainly won't be easy for him in the next few months, the long-term prognosis is good.

Secondly: you know if things go terribly wrong for him, he'll get a best-selling self-help book out of the trouble he's survived. He does, after all, have Moon in Taurus in the Second House... and if there's any placement that can find a way to turn a buck off of a crisis, that's it.

One more thing: Phil has Saturn smack on his Seventh House (marriage and partnerships) cusp. And who is that stern little gimlet-eyed woman staring at him from the audience all the time? Yup. That's Mrs. McGraw.

The Winner Of The 2008 Presidential Election Is...

John McCain has just announced his choice for his Vice Presidential candidate. It's Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska. Prior to today, Sarah was best known as "the potential candidate for VP that McCain might go with to look hip and trendy," as if presidential politics was a game of poker in which a white female trumps a black guy, or something.

(Forgive my cynicism, but I don't think anyone observing American politics from the outside for as long as I have can avoid being cynical.)

There doesn't seem to be an official time of birth for Ms. Palin around anywhere yet. What we do know is that she was born February 11th, 1964 in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Although it's always dangerous to speculate about such things without an accurate time of birth, here's Sarah's major transits for Election Day.

Transiting Mars square natal Mars
Transiting Jupiter square natal Jupiter
Transiting Jupiter sextile natal Neptune
Transiting Neptune square natal Sun-Mars-Saturn

(A natal Sun-Mars-Saturn conjunction? Sounds Republican to me!)

Admittedly, it doesn't look terribly happy for Ms. Palin.

The truth is though, I've been more or less deliberately avoiding doing too many calculations in an attempt to figure out who is going to win the upcoming election. And that's certainly not due to a lack of interest. That's not even due to the relative lack or reliable birth data.

I think astrology can tell us the outcome of the election, but not in the usual sense.

You see, transit-wise, the big news this upcoming First Tuesday In November this year is the exact Saturn/Uranus opposition in Virgo/Pisces, with Uranus retrograde. Transiting Venus is throwing in a square from Sagittarius to liven things up a little.

Uranus rules, among other things, electronics and relatively-novel technical processes. And this election, up to one-third of all ballots in the election are not going to be counted by squabbling bands of Democratic and Republican scrutineers, as the process has gone in past.

This election, up to one-third of all the ballots will be "counted" by Diebold voting machines. You know, the efficient, Uranus-ruled devices that 34 States have already been officially notified drop votes unpredictably and that can be relatively easily hacked.

The winner of the next US Presidential Election? I'm predicting a landslide... for Uranus.
